Sidestrand Hall Sixth Form

About

Sidestrand Hall Sixth Form  is a local authority Sixth Form located on the outskirts of Cromer, serving students aged 16  to 19 with complex needs. Students have statements of special educational needs. Their needs include moderate learning difficulties; behavioural, emotional and social difficulties; autistic spectrum disorder; and speech, language and communication difficulties.

Sidestrand Hall Sixth Form is part of  Sidestrand Hall School which caters for young people from KS2 – KS4.  The school was awarded a grant to build a 40-place post-16 provision, which opened in 2017.  Students can access all of the facilities within the school and they also access local community amenities such as a gym, swimming and leisure pool and the school’s charity shop in Cromer. The school has residential provision on site (term time only) and there is capacity for some sixth form students to use this to help them prepare for adult life.

Ethos

At Sidestrand Hall Sixth Form we believe that all students have an entitlement to a full and extended curriculum, which enables them to achieve success. All staff are committed to raising educational standards through the delivery of a broad and exciting curriculum which provides all students with solid foundations in core subjects and independence skills while allowing them to explore their interests through different options subjects.

The Sixth Form promotes positive relationships between students, staff, parents and community partners. We pride ourselves on knowing each student well and ensuring that we provide an experience, personal to them, to help them develop the confidence and skills they need to be ready to move on to their next steps in life.

Titan

We have partnered with Norfolk County Council’s TITAN (Travel Independence Training across Norfolk) team and are currently delivering the Ready to Go! travel training programme to our students. TITAN offers young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) support to help them to become confident independent travellers. The Ready to Go! programme is a flexible framework for students from Year 7 onwards and teaches six core modules:

  • Pedestrian Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Personal Health, Safety and Wellbeing
  • Problem-Solving Skills
  • Journey Planning Skills
  • Journey Practice Skills

The skills that the TITAN training provides have a holistic, positive impact across the whole of the young person’s life. Once completed, TITAN can support our students to transition to independently travelling to and from school or college, where appropriate.
