Sidestrand Hall School is a signing school. We use Signalong which is a total communication system. It involves signing key words and saying the word at the same time. This aims to reduce anxieties for a child who has speech language and communication difficulties. This in turn aids the understanding for everyone involved. It enables them to communicate and express their opinions and needs.
We have two members of staff who are trained Signalong tutors and deliver signing across the school. All staff are given Signalong training, including office, kitchen and premises and senior leaders. Signalong is delivered through various activities such as sign of the week, sessions in class and the school signing choir.
